In the early 2000s, consistent with a general rethinking of the functions and activities of foundations, it became clear that it would be useful to concentrate the collection and management of financial resources within the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation. This would also enable a new entity, acting as the operational arm of the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation, to take over the hosting of musicians in the historic building in Piazza Buonarroti, which Giuseppe Verdi had donated to the foundation he established in 1899.
The project took shape in June 2007 with the establishment of the “Casa dei Musicisti” foundation, with the exclusive, non-profit purpose of hosting musicians in accordance with the statutory and regulatory provisions of the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation.
The “Casa dei Musicisti” foundation, recognized by decree no. 10569 of the President of the Lombardy Region in September 2007, and registered in the register of Private Legal Entities at no. 2262, received in December 2007 from the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation the transfer of its social welfare activities with the operational and financial resources to carry out these activities. The former through the use of the institutional building at Piazza Buonarroti 29 on loan, the transfer of the furnishings and equipment related to the social welfare activity and of the assigned staff and the takeover of contractual relationships, and the latter through the provision of financial contributions intended to cover any deficits, including through the ten-year transfer of the right of usufruct on part of the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation's real estate assets, thus directly collecting the related rental fees.
Since January 1, 2008, the "Casa dei Musicisti" foundation has been fully operational and the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation, which appoints its administrators from among its board of directors (with the possible addition of its general secretary), can focus on the fundamental activities of raising and managing the financial resources necessary to carry out the activities desired by Giuseppe Verdi.
